Backhoe Loaders for Utility Trenching & Pipe Work

Backhoe loaders remain the workhorse of road and utility crews because they combine a front loader, a rear excavator, and on-road mobility in a single machine. ZHONGMAI's backhoe loaders deliver dig depths of up to 4.5 m, sufficient for most water, sewer, and electrical conduit installations. The front loader bucket handles backfill, gravel spreading, and debris removal, eliminating the need for a second machine on many jobsites.

For urban utility work, the ability to drive between sites on public roads without a low-bed trailer saves significant time and transport cost. ZHONGMAI backhoe loaders are available with 2WD or 4WD drivetrains and optional pilot-control hydraulics for reduced operator fatigue on long shifts.

Side-shift backhoe configurations allow the operator to dig offset from the machine centerline, which is essential when working alongside existing pavement or structures where the machine cannot be positioned directly over the trench.

Mini Excavators for Confined-Space Pipe Laying

In residential streets and urban areas, full-size excavators often cannot operate due to space constraints, overhead wires, or weight restrictions on existing pavement. ZHONGMAI's 1.0–3.5 tonne mini excavators fill this gap: they fit in single traffic lanes, pass under low bridges, and exert low ground pressure on finished surfaces.

Boom-swing capability lets the operator dig along walls and curbs without repositioning the undercarriage, which speeds production on linear trenching jobs. Optional long-reach arms extend horizontal reach for deeper utility corridors without the need to over-excavate the trench width.

Skid Steers & Concrete Mixers for Road Prep

Skid steer loaders handle sub-base preparation, gravel spreading, and material loading on road projects. With a cold-planer attachment, they can mill damaged asphalt on small repair sections; with a vibratory roller attachment, they compact sub-base layers in tight areas that full-size rollers cannot access.

ZHONGMAI's self-loading concrete mixers combine a front-loading bucket, a mixing drum, and a discharge chute in one self-propelled unit. They load raw materials (aggregate, cement, water) on-site, mix during transit, and pour at the work face — eliminating the need for a batch plant, loader, and transit mixer on small pours such as curb-and-gutter work, drainage headwalls, and bridge abutment repairs. Batch capacities range from 1.2 to 4.0 m³, suitable for pours that would be uneconomical for a ready-mix truck delivery.

The combination of a skid steer for earthwork and a self-loading mixer for concrete gives small road crews a self-sufficient two-machine spread that handles the most common infrastructure tasks.
